Two People -- Two Rucksacks
From October to December 2015 we walked from Baldegg in Switzerland (near Luzern) all the way to Paris for the world climate summit. When we got back, we vacated our apartment and happily gave away all our possessions, except the contents of our two rucksacks.
In February 2016 we started out on a pilgrimage – one with no time limit.
There’s no single motivation for what we’re doing. Each of us has his own motives, aspirations and visions. What binds us, however, is our belief in the common sense of this new stage in our joint life journey.
December 2016 - Sesto get's a (not so) surprising diagnosis: both hips should be operated and replaced. Sesto decided to intensify his selfhealing. After a recollection pause at two places in Switzerland we follow an invitation to a conference in the middle of May in Japan, where we will stay until June 15th. ... Our motivation keeps unchanged. The path ascends, but we carry on and report in our blog the green pilgrims.
On 2nd February 2017, one year after our move-out into the society, we remember and say "Thank you!". In the May issue 2017 of Kosmos Journal we could reflect on our pilgrimage so far: Reflections on Our Pilgrimage Into Society.

Sesto Giovanni Castagnoli -- love, live and laugh ...
“A life constantly on the move. Long walks to school. Sport – my total passion until the age of 40. Many years of travelling and working worldwide on various projects. Meeting with people of all cultures. From my time in Africa I retain a deep need for authenticity, justice and harmony between peoples. Thereafter, a decade concerned with spirituality and related themes…
After a long wait, there was a call to pilgrimage and the desire to make it happen. Then, a further impulse: a request to advise on a project for sustainable Pilgrim Cities all over the world. Whether the beginning or the end, it’s a joint “Let’s go!” with Gabriele… ‘Love, life and laugh’, my three daily Ls… It’s with that approach to life that I want to meet people, including on our pilgrimage.” For information on Sesto’s international activities, please see www.evolutant.com |
Gabriele Castagnoli -- offer yourself to life ...
“…from one place to another… going away – to begin again – was always a theme along my life’s path. Many house-moves, many changes of school as a child. Later, job changes and career changes, a few changes of partner too – until arriving at the late harbour of marriage…
I’m a person in motion. The energy of moving enlivens my body and my spirit, and gives my thoughts wings. I’ve long been yearning to make a pilgrimage – even including two multi-day experiences in 2009 and 2014 on the Swiss ‘Way of St. James’. A pilgrimage with no end? Unthinkable! And then, at the end of 2015, two months walking from Baldegg (Luzern/CH) to Paris for the climate change conference… Come on! My thoughts and visions for my own life, for our society and for the demands of these exciting times are looking for new ways to express themselves… Sesto and I are letting go, giving away everything, and go out into the world meeting our fellow humans…” Information on Gabriele’s multi-faceted skills and work can be found at www.oralab.ch |
The Green Pilgrims -- seeding inspiration and letting it grow ...
The name, “the green pilgrims”, that we have chosen for our website has its own special history. So from this then also developed the 'Green Thoughts', which we offer regularly in the places where we are staying currently.
Sesto is senior advisor for an international project for sustainable pilgrimage towns. In researching for suitable names for the project, Gabriele came up with “the green pilgrimage”. In the meantime, the project has been relabeled. We find the energy in the name, “the green pilgrims” fascinating and it fits with the many themes and causes we want to support and for which we keep “walking onwards”. |
